Tom Horne, with more than 4,000 hours of experience in some 200 different airplanes, ATP, and flight instructor certificates with instrument, multi-engine and glider ratings, and more than 650 magazine articles to his credit, is a prolific writer and avid pilot with an affinity for understanding the workings of weather. Add to this the fact that he has written on the subject of aviation weather regularly for over 16 years, and it is obvious this combination of talents led to the writing of Flying America's Weather.
Tom Horne is a past winner of the Earl D. Osborn Award for Excellence in Aviation Journalism, and he has written for AOPA Pilot magazine for 18 years, serving the magazine in a variety of roles. Among these roles has been the editorship of AOPA Pilot, and the editorship of Ultralight Pilot, a magazine published from 1982 to 1984.
Some of Tom's other contributions include articles for the International Herald Tribune, authorship of three books for Time-Life publications, and two book-length safety reviews published for the AOPA Air Safety Foundation.
In his flying life, Tom's logbook includes lengthy stints as a flight instructor, a photogrammetrist-pilot, and a trans-Atlantic ferry pilot with 21 crossings in single- and multi-engine airplanes.
